Solar Power!

http://www.nytimes.com/info/solar-energy/

This article explains the distribution and function of solar power, as well as its drawbacks and benefits. We all know that solar power is good for the environment, but what else does it have to offer? It's renewable, clean and cost efficient. There will always be sun and we will always be able to harness the sun's power. There are no carbon emissions or greenhouse gases, and it doesn't devastate the land to harness solar power. There is no waste. Though the installation is expensive, it only takes a couple weeks to a couple months to make your money back. And when your panels collect more energy than you can consume, you can sell the extra to your local energy corporations. Though it may not be as aesthetically pleasing to have panels on your roof, it is great for the environment and is an awesome alternative to coal.

  1. I think that solar power is probably the most promising single replacement for our current energy sources. The ideal approach would be one that uses a wide variety of different sources, including solar but also biofuels, hydroelectric and wind energy. Ultimately, however, all of these sources get their energy from the sun also. Solar energy is clean and dependable, and can be gathered at almost any location, unlike wind energy and other alternative energy forms. The major barrier to more widespread implementation of solar technology is that the panels are now prohibitively expensive and inefficient. Fortunately, solar panels are improving and are becoming increasingly feasible as they are further researched.

  2. I think that the US needs to invest more money and time on solar energy. Solar energy is the only source that we have that is limitless, considering we have billions of years before it depletes. I think the solution to our energy crisis is solar energy. It may cost a lot at first but it will save us money in the end. The US needs to make this transition because it will give us a cheaper and cleaner energy. This is a sacrifice that will have much more benefit if we make this transistion.

  3. Solar energy seems to be one of the best solutions for the future, if we can figure out how to solve the logistic problems associated with solar, like the large amount of space needed to power a given area, then it looks like this will be the energy of the future- but first we need to solve all those problems, a task not easily done.
