Geothermal Energy

Geothermal energy has been used for many many years and the supply is greater than oil. Wouldn't that make this alternative the prefect switch? 20 plus countries already use geothermal energy. Why not increase the number? Geothermal also has an advantage over other alternatives because it is available at all times, it's not explosive, and it is found to be much cheaper. The main flaw geothermal energy has is its smell at even small concentrations. Is a bad smell more important than sustainability or vice versa?

Alternative energy sources always seems to be the topic of discussion. We are searching for the perfect alternative. Their is no such thing as a perfect alternative source of energy, hence to the reason we are in this oil crisis now. We learned oil and fossil fuels were not perfect the hard way. It is time we move on to the next source and continue progression until we are close to the infamous "perfect alternative" Geothermal may be just that but the bad smell will loose a lot of supporters.

  1. I feel that geothermak would b a great choice. But not the best for every country or state. There are many places that are not suited for that kind of energy just for the fact that there isnt enough energy in that spot. But for the rite areas this would b a great form of energy

  2. If smell is the big negative, then nimby would probably apply to many place where geothermal could be taken advantage of. With that said I am sure that there are sources in lightly populated areas that would not care about the smell as much.

  3. Geothermal is a good alternative fuel, but geothermal is also expensive to build, because of all the labor, materials and other things needed to gather energy. I feel that most countries don't have the initial funding to get geothermal energy. Most alternative fuels have this problem, like solar, but I feel that solar would be a better alternative for most countries rather than geothermal.

  4. Geothermal is incredibly expensive, and if the sources aren't given enough time to replenish, it can cause earthquakes. Like you said, there is no 'perfect' alternative energy source, but I do think there are other options that would be more effective.
